✔ Listening to classical music is best for a quick IQ increase
The works of Mozart and Beethoven are famous for mental function, because the frequencies used are very specific and place the mind in highly distinctive states. Studies have repeatedly shown that your IQ rises by 3-5 points after listening to classical music.
✔ Playing a musical instrument will increase IQ
Playing musical instruments make certain regions of the brain more connected with each other, and increases your concentration span.

Ten  Benefits of Music  Education

1. Early musical  training helps develop brain areas involved in
language and reasoning. Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with  processing language, and can actually wire the brain's circuits in specific ways. The right brain is stimulated to create new songs, visualizations, and thought. Linking familiar songs to new information can also
help imprint information on young minds.

2. There is also a causal link between music and spatial intelligence (the ability to perceive the world accurately and to form mental pictures of things).

3. Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions, rejecting outdated rules and assumptions. Questions about the arts do not have only one right answer.

4. Recent studies show that students who study the arts are more successful on standardized tests such as the SAT. They
also achieve higher grades in high school. Making Music Makes Us Smarter!

5. A study of the arts provides children with an internal glimpse of other cultures and teaches them to be empathetic towards the people of these cultures. This development is also a look back in history and a stimulant to other academic areas.
6. Students of music learn craftsmanship as they study how “small steps” of a musical form are can be constructed to build a song. The student learns to be the best judge of his/her musical performance.

7. Music study enhances teamwork and discipline. In order for an ensemble to sound good, all players must work together harmoniously towards a single goal, the performance, and must commit to learning music, attending rehearsals, and home practice.

8. Music provides children with a means of self-expression. Now that there is relative security in the basics of existence, the challenge is to make life meaningful and to reach for a higher stage of development. Everyone needs to be in touch at some time in his life with his core, with what he is and what he feels. Self-esteem is a by-product of this self-expression.

9. An arts education exposes children to something unique and inventive.

10. Its fun!

Benefits of Learning to Play the Violin

One of the habits of highly successful people has been learning to play a musical instrument as a child. The truth is, ALL CHILDREN HAVE TALENT and any child can be taught to play any kind of instrument. One of the simplest instruments for a student to learn is the violin.

This is because:

1.   The violin comes in exactly the students size ( with a wide range of sizes from 1/32, through 1/16, 1/8, ¼, ½, ¾, 4/4 or full size.)

2.  Violin playing is fun! And when its fun, students want to practice at home.

3.   For younger students the parent is empowered as the HOME TEACHER and approver of all musical efforts.

4.   The awesome power of the mind is channeled and the ear for student to learn to play the violin as easily as they learned to speak! Music is the “international language”. Children that are bilingual are often adept at learning to play the violin!

Group Lessons VS Private Lessons

Picture
Group lessons and Private lessons both have their benefits for different reasons.  I always encourage students to take both private lessons, at least once a week, and group lessons, at least once or twice a month.  Although there are definite benefits to taking both group and private lessons, I found, during my nine years of teaching, that there are a lot of parents and students that want to take lessons but are not able to necessarily do “both” for various reasons.
These reasons include, but are not limited to:
Time Constraints
Financial Restrictions
Location Limitations
Family Demands
Work

✔ Group Lesson Benefits
Modeling is a big part of group lessons because students who might be more advanced than other students are able to be examples, or models, for the less experienced students.  Addition to modeling, some students respond better to being assisted by their peers as well as with the instructor.
Group lessons are also good for learning how to play together, in unison with others, and help to reinforce things that have already been covered during Private Lessons.

✔ Private Lessons Benefits
There are several benefits to having private/one on one instruction, specifically with respects to allowing the student to have the individualized attention to help correct things like violin posture and positioning, adjusting their bow hold, and assistance with finger placement.  I found that this is particularly important with beginners because they are allowed the one on one opportunity to focus on developing effective practice habits, and holding and playing their instrument properly.  This is where the parent/student would have to take skill level into consideration, if it is not possible to do both group and private instruction.
For Beginners if it is not possible for a student to take private lessons for a long period of time, I suggest that student’s at least take private lessons until they are comfortable with his or her instrument.  At the very least, I’d say students should take at least four consecutive lessons (that one month of lessons) before beginning/continuing group lessons for best possible results.  This is where the audio and video aids would assist the student.  Although, I have found that taking group lessons only can in fact significantly delay the students learning experience, and ability to start playing his/her instrument as well as those whom take private lessons as well as group, or private lessons alone.
For Intermediate and Advanced Students, I found that it is possible for some students to be able to take group lessons with less private lessons, if that is all they can afford or have time for.  Again, I suggest that students take BOTH group and private lessons, and I want to emphasize that both are necessary for the students best overall performance, but you have to take into consideration what your short term/long term goals are as well as what it is that best fits your individual situation.  This would also be where the audio and video aids would be of assistance to the student.

Health Benefits to Music Education
  • Deep Breathing – Most of the time our breathing is very shallow, but activities like singing or playing a wind instrument require deep breathing from the diaphragm. This strengthens your lungs and respiratory system. Playing the harmonica can even help with pulmonary disease!
  • Immune Response – When we learn to play an instrument, we often become inspired to create our own music. According to an article by Live Science, making music “enhances the immunological response, which enables us to fight viruses.”
  • Stress Relief – Playing music brings your energy and focus into a positive activity, which can help alleviate stress. Those reduced stress levels can help get your blood pressure and heart rate down to a healthy level.
  • Fine Hearing – Learning music refines your hearing skills by training you to isolate sounds as they occur. Studies have even shown that musicians are better at picking out specific voices and sounds in a noisy environment.
  • Exercise – Playing an instrument naturally leads to increased physical activity. Whether you’re playing the piano, guitar, strings, or a wind instrument, you’re using your arm and back muscles to play and/or hold up your instrument. And if you play the drums, you even get to do some cardio!
  • Posture – Any good music teacher will correct your posture during lessons. This can help you get into the habit of sitting up straight and having proper alignment even when you’re not playing. These are all great ways to alleviate neck and back pain.
